1970s Suzuki Three S W-400
Made in Japan | Solid Top | Abalone Fascia | Low Action | Hard Case | Rare
£780.00
The Suzuki Three S W-400 is a rare 1970s Japanese acoustic guitar from the golden era of MIJ (Made in Japan) craftsmanship. Built in Japan under Suzuki’s respected Three S line, these guitars were produced in limited numbers and are now increasingly sought after by players and collectors who appreciate vintage Japanese tone and build quality.
This dreadnought-style acoustic features a solid spruce top, paired with beautifully grained rosewood back & sides, all framed by elegant multi-layer binding. The soundhole is accented with a tasteful abalone-style decorative fascia, adding a refined vintage elegance typically seen on higher-end MIJ acoustics of the era. The craftsmanship is clean and refined, with classic vintage proportions and a warm natural gloss finish that has aged gracefully over decades.
Tonally, the W-400 delivers a dry, open vintage voice with excellent clarity and balance. The low end is warm and supportive, the mids are woody and focused, and the highs are clear without being harsh. It responds exceptionally well to both strumming and fingerstyle, with that unmistakable 1970s MIJ character that continues to open up with age.
This example is in good vintage condition, showing only light cosmetic wear consistent with age (see photos). There are no cracks, no repairs, and no structural issues. The neck is straight, and the guitar plays comfortably with low action set at approx. 2.0mm on the low E and 1.5mm on the high E at the 12th fret. A well-fitted hard case is included for protection.

🎼 Why this guitar?
The Suzuki Three S W-400 is a fantastic example of 1970s Japanese acoustic craftsmanship, built during a time when MIJ guitars were made to rival — and often exceed — many American instruments of the same era.
With its solid spruce top, rosewood body, elegant binding, abalone fascia, comfortable low action, and mature vintage tone, the W-400 is both a serious player’s guitar and a collectible MIJ piece. If you’re looking for a rare, honest, great-sounding vintage Japanese acoustic that stands apart from the usual brands, this one truly delivers.
