1970s Yamaha C-300A
Made in Japan | Solid Top | Vintage Classical Tone
£399.00
The Yamaha C-300A is a refined vintage classical guitar from Yamaha’s golden-era Japanese production, built during a time when traditional craftsmanship and carefully selected tonewoods defined the brand’s reputation worldwide.
Based on the serial number, this example most likely dates to the early 1970s, placing it firmly within the highly regarded Nippon Gakki period — known for its consistency, build quality, and warm, mature tonal character.
This model features a solid top, delivering a responsive and open voice with excellent projection. The tone is warm, rounded, and expressive, with a sweet midrange and smooth trebles — ideal for classical repertoire as well as fingerstyle playing.
Visually, the guitar has developed a beautiful vintage amber hue on the top, giving it that classic aged Yamaha look that many players love.
Playability is comfortable and traditional for a vintage classical. The action measures approximately 3.5mm on the Low E and 3.25mm on the High E at the 12th fret, offering a solid classical feel with good dynamic control.
Cosmetically, the guitar shows honest signs of age. Notably, there is finish whitening on the back and sides, which is a common ageing phenomenon seen on vintage Yamaha guitars. This is purely cosmetic, does not affect the structure or playability, and is reflected in the more attractive pricing of this instrument.
