1970s Yamaha FG-350

The Yamaha FG-350 Red Label is a beautiful example of Yamaha’s legendary early Japanese FG series — a higher-grade model from the same celebrated family as the iconic FG-180.

Made in Japan by Nippon Gakki during the early 1970s, the FG-350 belongs to Yamaha’s highly regarded Red Label era. While the FG-180 became the best-known model of the series, the FG-350 sat further up the range, offering a more premium specification and appearance while retaining the powerful, characterful sound that made these early Japanese Yamaha acoustics so desirable.

After more than five decades, this guitar has developed a beautiful vintage sound: rich, open and mature, with strong projection, warm lows and a clear, woody character. It has the unmistakable voice that makes the early Red Label Yamahas so enjoyable to play.

The spruce top is paired with Coral Rosewood back and sides, giving the guitar a particularly attractive appearance as well as a full and balanced voice. The multi-ply body binding and rosette also give the FG-350 a noticeably more refined look than the simpler models in the early FG range.

The guitar is in very good vintage condition, especially considering its age. Naturally, there are signs of use and ageing throughout, including marks, scratches and general cosmetic wear, all consistent with a genuine vintage instrument. The neck is stable and the guitar plays comfortably, with the action currently measuring approximately 2.5 mm on the low E and 2.0 mm on the high E at the 12th fret.
