1978 Yamaha FG-201B

The Yamaha FG-201B is a well-regarded Made in Japan acoustic from Yamaha’s classic FG series, produced during the brand’s golden era of Japanese craftsmanship in the 1970s. These MIJ FG models are known for their reliable build quality, stable necks and strong, open projection, making them a favourite among players looking for an honest, great-sounding vintage workhorse.

This FG-201B features a beautifully aged spruce top paired with rosewood back and sides, delivering a loud, open voice with strong fundamentals, clear highs and a focused, punchy midrange. Decades of natural ageing have given the finish a honey-amber vintage colour, adding both visual character and tonal maturity.

It has been fully cleaned, polished and freshly set up, with action measuring approximately 3mm (low E) / 2.75mm (high E) at the 12th fret, providing a comfortable playing feel with strong projection and dynamic headroom for both strumming and fingerstyle.

Cosmetically, the guitar is in fantastic overall condition with only very minimal surface marks across the body—exceptionally clean for its age. There is a small surface crack in the wood near the end pin; this has been thoroughly inspected and confirmed to be purely on the surface, with no effect on the structural integrity of the guitar. The end pin itself remains completely solid and secure.
