The Yamaha FG-202B is a classic vintage acoustic from Yamaha’s highly regarded FG series, built in the 1978 during the golden era of Japanese guitar craftsmanship.
This example features the distinctive orange label and reflects the quality, tone, and reliability that made vintage Yamaha acoustics so well regarded among players.
Unlike the larger dreadnought models, the FG-202B features a more compact folk-size body, offering a comfortable playing experience with a balanced and focused tonal response — ideal for fingerstyle, light strumming, and relaxed couch playing. Paired with an ebony fingerboard and bridge, it also offers a smooth feel under the fingers and adds to the guitar’s overall refined vintage character.
Built with a spruce top and rosewood back and sides, this guitar delivers a warm, woody tone with clear mids, smooth trebles, and a controlled low-end — giving it a refined and articulate vintage voice.
Over time, the wood has matured beautifully, producing that sought-after “played-in” resonance that modern guitars often lack.
The guitar has been cleaned, polished, and set up for comfortable playability, with a low action of approximately 2.5mm (low E) / 1.75mm (high E) at the 12th fret — making it very easy to play and suitable for long sessions.
Condition is very good for its age. The gloss finish still presents very well, and the back and sides show a deep, rich grain. There are only light cosmetic signs of use consistent with a well-maintained vintage instrument. Structurally the guitar is solid, the neck is straight, and it plays cleanly across the fretboard.
