1980s Yamaha L-7S

The Yamaha L-7S is a rare Japanese-made vintage acoustic from 1980s, produced during an important period in Yamaha’s acoustic-guitar history.

Part of Yamaha’s respected L (Luxury) Series, the L-7S combines distinctive styling with the precise construction and attention to detail for which vintage Japanese Yamaha instruments are highly regarded.

Its rare sunburst finish is complemented by a large decorative butterfly-and-flower pickguard, bold block-style fingerboard inlays, a fully bound headstock and fingerboard, gold-coloured hardware, and an elegant ebony bridge. These unusual appointments give the guitar a highly recognisable Dove-style appearance that stands apart from more conventional vintage dreadnoughts.

The full-sized body combines a spruce top with African mahogany back and sides, producing a powerful and responsive acoustic voice with strong projection, clear note definition, warm mids, and a crisp upper register. It works particularly well for strumming, flatpicking, recording, and vocal accompaniment.

The original-style adjustable saddle allows the string height to be raised or lowered using the two adjustment screws. The current action measures approximately 2.5mm on the low E and 2mm on the high E at the 12th fret, providing a comfortable and responsive playing experience.

The guitar is in very good vintage condition, particularly considering its age. It remains exceptionally clean and well presented, with only light surface scratches and small cosmetic marks consistent with careful use.
